Mercia Novice Open

Entries are now open for the Mercia Novice Open, taking place on Sunday 19th February 2023 at Allestree Woodlands School in Derby. This is a non-ranking competition for fencers aged 13 or older as of 1/1/23 with Starter, Recreational or Compete membership of British Fencing. First time competitors are particularly welcome!2 rounds of poules, so plenty of fencing – poules may be mixed gender, depending on entries, but DE round(s) will be single gender. All 3 weapons this time around, so we’d especially love to see lots of novice sabreurs! Fencers must have a full compete membership to compete in the event and have affiliation to East Midlands Region on their Sport80 account. All memberships will be validated. PLEASE CHECK YOUR REGIONAL AFFILIATION IN YOUR SPORT80 ACCOUNT BEFORE ENTERING.

Not to have won a medal at a Senior Open event with more than 12 competitors, at any weapon. 

To be outside the top (on Janury 1st 2020): 

MF 150 Senior National Rankings 

WF 75 Senior National Rankings 

ME 150 Senior National Rankings 

WE 75 Senior National Rankings 

MS 100 Senior National Rankings 

WS 50 Senior National Rankings 

Not to have represented a Home Nation or Country at any level.

Not to have medalled at a Cadet/Junior BRC event.

Important Information:

The John Holt Novice Open is held in honour of one of the region’s most respected coaches. The event is aimed at novice and intermediate fencers and is designed as a stepping stone between regional intermediate events and a senior Open. We can assure you of a warm welcome and plenty of advice for those who are not familiar with the competition format. 

Size 5 weapons and 800N plastrons are required for all events. Lame bibs and mask wires are required for foil. 800N gloves will be required for sabre. Kit will be checked at the event.

Two rounds of poules, followed by DE. No cut. 

Please only enter one event. Entry fee £30.00. Early bird entry £20.00 before 1st May. Late entries (from 20th July) £40.00.
